A workflow for Japanese D2C brands

From product photos to a Shopify listing for beauty and wellness.

Palette Studio is a Shopify app for Japanese D2C brands, especially cosmetics, health foods and supplements. Create product photos and copy, run a preliminary review of claims under Japanese advertising rules, and save the results to Shopify after your review. It supports six product categories in total, including apparel.

  • Six product categories
  • Preliminary claim review
  • Save to Shopify after review

We are resubmitting to the Shopify App Store. Leave your email if you would like to hear when the app becomes available.

Example conversion from a flat-lay garment image to an AI-generated image of a Japanese model wearing it

This apparel virtual try-on example was generated with Palette Studio. The model is not a real person.

Workflow

One workflow for beauty and wellness product pages

Connect product photography, copywriting, claim review and Shopify updates in one admin workflow.

01

Create the right product photo

Choose category-specific looks, from cosmetics flat lays and model-held products to supplement lifestyle scenes.

02

Build the product page copy

Draft titles, descriptions, highlights, tags and SEO fields, then adapt the copy for ads when needed.

03

Review potentially risky claims

Flag wording that needs review under Japan’s pharmaceutical, advertising and functional-food rules, with alternatives to consider.

04

Review before saving to Shopify

Inspect and edit the generated images and information, then explicitly save them to the Shopify product.

Features

Photos, copy, checks and publishing in one flow

Designed around cosmetics and supplements, with production workflows for all six categories, including apparel, food and jewelry.

AI product photography

Photos for six product categories

Supports apparel, cosmetics, health foods and supplements, food and beverages, jewelry and accessories, and other products. Choose a category-specific style and export in formats for different placements.

Product copy

From titles to SEO fields

Draft three title options, a description, highlights, tags and SEO information. Run the output through the claim checker before saving approved copy to Shopify.

Catalog-wide claim scan

Review existing product pages

Flag wording in Shopify products that may need review under Japanese pharmaceutical, advertising or functional-food rules. This is a preliminary aid, not a guarantee of legal compliance; you review and edit the suggestions.

Shopify updates

Save only what you approve

Review and edit generated images or product information before explicitly saving them to a Shopify product. The app does not automatically rewrite published content.

AI makeup try-on

Preview cosmetic shades on a face model

Supports lipstick, lip gloss, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush, foundation and concealer. Extract color from a product image or enter a HEX value. Lighting and source images can change how a shade appears, so review the result.

Ad copy

Copy for each channel’s format

Draft headline, body and CTA options for Meta, Google Search, LINE and TikTok formats and character limits.

Cosmetics photos

Available now, with more scenes planned

We distinguish the two current photo styles from styles planned for a future release.

Available now

Flat lay

A standalone product image styled as though photographed on fabric or stone in natural light.

Available now

Held by a model

An upper-body model holding the product near the chest, with preset scenes to choose from.

Planned

Applying to skin

A product-use scene on a cheek, hand or other skin area is planned, with dedicated scene imagery.

Planned

Looking in a mirror

A scene showing someone checking the result in a mirror is planned, with dedicated scene imagery.

“Applying to skin” and “Looking in a mirror” are not available yet. Timing and details may change.

Models & categories

Eight standard apparel models and category-specific styles

Choose from four female and four male standard models for apparel. Cosmetics offer standalone or model-held photos; supplements, food, jewelry and other products use category-specific templates.

The standard models shown here are fictional AI-generated people. Pro and Studio merchants can separately register custom models using photos for which they have permission.

Safety

Data we use—and data we do not collect

01

No shopper records

Generation uses product images and information, plus any custom model images you choose to register. We do not collect or store your store’s shopper records.

02

Privacy request webhooks

The app handles the data access and deletion request webhooks required by Shopify. External-provider deletion remains a release gate.

03

Clear AI-image disclosure

The app is designed for disclosure of AI-generated imagery. We do not intend generated images to be presented as unaltered photography.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I install it now?
Not yet. We are resubmitting to the Shopify App Store. Leave your email to hear when it becomes available.
Are the standard models real people?
No. Palette Studio’s standard models are fictional AI-generated people. With Pro or Studio, you can register photos of your own models when you have permission to use them.
Will the garment’s color and pattern be exact?
The virtual try-on model aims to preserve color, pattern and shape, but generated images may differ in texture or detail, including labels, logos and text. Always visually check the result for elements not present on the original product.
Which product categories are supported?
Six categories: cosmetics, health foods and supplements, apparel, food and beverages, jewelry and accessories, and other products. Apparel supports tops, bottoms and dresses.
What cosmetic photos can it create?
Currently, a standalone flat lay or a model holding the product. Applying to skin and looking in a mirror are planned, not available now. Makeup try-on is a separate feature for eight makeup types.
Can I use my own model photos?
Pro supports up to three new custom models and Studio has no set slot limit. Choose full-body for apparel, upper-body for model-held cosmetics or face close-up for makeup try-on. Free does not allow new custom models.
Does the claim checker certify Japanese legal compliance?
No. It flags wording for review under Japan’s pharmaceutical, advertising and functional-food rules and suggests alternatives. It assists with a draft review; it does not guarantee legal compliance. You must review claims before publishing.
Who can use generated images and copy?
The outputs are intended for your store’s use. Full terms will be provided at launch.
Who builds Palette Studio?
Mumu Labo plans, develops and operates Palette Studio for Japanese e-commerce workflows.
